Leconfield Coonawarra Reserve Shiraz (12 per case)

TASTING NOTES

Leconfield is situated in the heart of Australia’s famous Coonawarra with its rich Terra Rosa soil over limestone providing the ideal environment for growing premium Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyard was founded in 1974 by pioneering oenologist Sydney Hamilton who at 76 years of age had the ambition to produce the classic Australian red wine. Today the estate remains a family wine business owned by Dr Richard and Jette Hamilton. The Hamilton family have been growing grapes and wine in Australia since 1837.

Winemakers: Paul Gordon & Greg Foster Winegrower: Dr Richard Hamilton

COLOUR

Deep garnet red.

NOSE

The nose has lovely aroma of plums with subtle fruit cake beautifully married with elegant French oak.

PALATE

This wine has medium to full body with silky tannins that provide persistence and length. Oak plays an important but diminutive role in providing complexity.

WINE MAKING

The key to the fruit intensity of this Shiraz lies in the careful manipulation of the vines to provide light penetration onto the fruit. Fermentation was in an oak vat with pump overs 3-4 times per day. Following pressing, the wine was placed into French oak hogsheads and was reworked several times to freshen the wine.

FOOD PAIRING

Slow cooked beef, pasta with rich tomato sauce, stir fry.
