Stoney Range Pinot Gris

Tasting Notes

The wine is full bodied, rich and dry, great with most meats especially pork, or dishes with a rich creamy rich sauce.

Flavour, flavour, flavour that is the story of the 2020 harvest. A variety of small batch techniques have been used to make this wine such as cool fermentations, skin contact and barrel fermentation, these are just a few special techniques used.

These various batches are later carefully blended into what we believe is a true reflection of Pinot Gris from the Waipara Valley, from a season that will stand out as one of the best.

Stoney Range Sauvignon Blanc

Tasting Notes

Aromas of gooseberry, fresh herbs and fresh cut grass with slight nettle notes. A refreshing wine with fruit flavours of crab apple, quince and white peach. Hints of passionfruit lend a slightly sweet fruit note while vegetal aspects of artichoke give the wine a complex and interesting flavour profile. A medium-bodied wine with light acidity and a fine long finish.

The Stoney Range Sauvignon Blanc was produced from grapes grown in the heart of the Waipara Valley on our Stirling, Church Road and Georges Road vineyards. Following harvest the fruit was gently pressed, settled and racked to fermentation. The juice was then cool fermented for 21 days and left on lees contact for a further two months prior to blending, light fining, filtering and bottling.

Stoney Range Rosé

Tasting Notes

The Stoney Range Rosé is made from Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Syrah from the Waipara Valley, North Canterbury. Concentrated fruit flavours and lifted acidity make this a refreshing wine. The subtle fruit sweetness adds a creaminess to the palate and a smooth mouth-feel. Not only is this an ideal summer wine, the richness of flavour make this perfect to enjoy all year round.

The Stoney Range Rosé was produced from grapes grown on our Pilgrim, Glasnevin, Terraces, Georges Rd, Stirling and Church Road vineyards in the Waipara Valley, North Canterbury. After 2 days of skin contact the lightly coloured juice was racked off the skins and put through a cool fermentation. The selected parcels were then blended and aged on lees for a further 2 months. The wine was then lightly fined, filtered and bottled.

Stoney Range Chardonnay

Tasting Notes

The abundant sunshine from one of the best harvests ever has produced this dry creamy textured medium bodied wine, full of ripe peachy characters with subtle oak flavours balancing the fruit. Ideally suited to richer food and sauce dishes.

Small batch techniques involving barrel fermentations with indigenous yeast as well as stainless tanks have been used in the making of this ripe and rich Chardonnay. While in barrels and tanks the wine is constantly hand stirred keeping the yeast cells in suspension, this is done to add a creamy character to the wine that is often found in good Chardonnays.

This is a must try wine from one of the harvests of a lifetime in the Waipara Valley.

Stoney Range Pinot Noir

Tasting Notes

This is a bright and juicy Pinot Noir with luscious aromas of raspberry and black plum. Oak ageing adds a spicy complexity to a typical Pinot Noir, characters of plum and violets form a soft tannin structure.

Most of the blend is tipped into open top fermentation tanks for
pre ferment soak prior to the fermentation starting naturally with indigenous yeast, another portion is tank fermented with pump over, then a very small portion is kept as whole berries and sealed for carbonic maceration fermentation. Once the fermentations have finished, a partial micro oxygenation is started which helps the wine to remain softer and rounder earlier.
